Clear Aligners Willoughby

Feeling self-conscious about misaligned, overcrowded, or gappy teeth is common, and maintaining good oral hygiene can be tricky when teeth overlap. If traditional metal braces feel too prominent for your day-to-day life, clear aligners offer a discreet alternative. St Leonards Green Dental offers clear aligners near Willoughby for teenagers and adults looking for a seamless path to a straighter smile.

Using custom-designed, removable trays, treatments like Invisalign and ClearCorrect work by gently shifting teeth into their ideal positions. Because no two smiles are identical, our team conducts a thorough clinical evaluation to map out an individualized plan structured entirely around your bite and long-term goals.

Straightening Your Teeth As An Adult

There is no upper age limit for moving teeth. What matters more is the health of the gums and bone that hold them. Provided these are in good condition, many adults in their 30s, 40s and beyond can be considered for aligner treatment.

Adults often come to us for practical reasons as well as appearance. Overlapping teeth trap food and plaque, which can make cleaning harder and raise the risk of decay and gum problems in those areas. Uneven contacts can also contribute to chipping or wear on particular teeth.

For many working adults, the appeal of aligners is that treatment happens quietly in the background. The trays are thin and clear, and most people around you are unlikely to notice them in day-to-day conversation.

Clear Aligners For Willoughby Teenagers

Willoughby is home to many young families, with students at Willoughby Public School, Willoughby Girls High School and nearby Chatswood schools. Some teenagers are well suited to aligners, particularly where the adult teeth are through, and only limited movement is needed.

Aligners rely on the wearer, so a teen’s routine matters as much as their teeth. Trays come out for recess and lunch, go back in after a brush or rinse, and need to stay in for most of the day and night. We talk through these habits with both the student and their parents before recommending this option.

Aligners are not a sports mouthguard. For rugby, soccer, basketball and other sports with a risk of knocks to the mouth, trays should be removed and a properly fitted mouthguard worn instead, then the aligners replaced soon after the game.

Where a child’s jaws are still developing, or the bite needs significant correction, fixed braces or a specialist orthodontist may be the better path. We will explain why if that is the case.

Getting Your Mouth Ready Before Aligners

Aligners fit tightly over the teeth, so any active decay or gum disease needs to be managed first. Starting treatment over an untreated cavity can allow it to progress under the plastic.

Your assessment therefore includes a check of existing fillings, crowns and gum health. If a clean, filling or periodontal care is needed, we will usually complete it before your trays are ordered.

Aligners can also be one step in a broader plan. Moving teeth into better positions may create room for a dental implant where a tooth is missing, or reduce how much tooth needs to be prepared for veneers or bonding. Implants and crowns themselves cannot be moved with aligners, which our dentist accounts for when mapping the treatment.

Invisalign Or ClearCorrect: How We Recommend A System

St Leonards Green Dental offers two aligner systems. Both use a series of clear, removable trays, but they differ in materials, planning software and treatment protocols.

Invisalign may be an option for mild to moderate crowding, spacing, relapse after earlier braces and some bite problems. Your examination confirms whether it suits your case.

For ClearCorrect, our clinic generally asks patients to wear each set of trays for at least 22 hours a day and to move on to the next set about every fortnight. Progress reviews are usually booked every six to eight weeks.

ClearCorrect can be the lower-cost choice for some cases, but we base our recommendation on what your teeth need first. Small tooth-coloured attachments may be bonded to some teeth to help the trays grip, and how visible they are depends on their position. Only wear the system that your own dental practitioner has prescribed and is monitoring.

When Aligners Are And Are Not The Right Tool

Our dentist looks at how your jaws relate, how your teeth meet and how far each tooth would need to travel before suggesting aligners.

Situations where aligners are commonly considered include:

  • Front teeth that overlap or sit out of line
  • Small gaps between teeth
  • Slightly rotated teeth
  • Relapse after braces worn years earlier
  • Some overbites, deep bites or open bites
  • Adults and dependable teens who want a low-profile option

Severe crowding, large jaw discrepancies and complex bite problems are often better treated with fixed braces or by a specialist orthodontist. Fixed braces work continuously and can give more control over difficult movements. We will tell you if referral is the sensible next step.

A Typical Day In Aligners

Take your trays out before breakfast and before any drink other than plain water, including your morning coffee. Brush or at least rinse before putting them back in, because sugars and plaque held against the teeth under plastic can increase the risk of decay.

Clean the trays as we show you, and never rinse them in hot water, which can warp the plastic. Keep the case with you at work or school. Trays left on a café table or wrapped in a serviette are among the most common causes of a lost set.

Your speech may sound slightly different for the first few days, which is worth knowing if you present at work or play a wind instrument. A fresh set can also feel snug for a day or two. Both usually settle, but tell us if discomfort continues.

If a tray cracks, goes missing or stops fitting, contact our clinic before moving to the next set. Hold on to your previous trays in case we ask you to wear one again for a short time.

Holding Your Result With Retainers

Teeth can drift after any orthodontic treatment, whether it involved braces, Invisalign or ClearCorrect. A retainer helps keep them in their new position, and wearing it as directed is part of the treatment, not an optional extra. Our dentist will recommend a retainer type and explain how often to wear it.

Ongoing check-ups and cleans let us monitor your gums, look for decay and keep an eye on the stability of your teeth.

Clear aligners may improve how your teeth line up, but we cannot promise any particular cosmetic or functional outcome. Outcomes depend on your suitability, the treatment plan, how your teeth respond and how consistently you wear the trays.

Fees, Estimates And Payment Plans

Clear aligner fees depend on case complexity, which system is used, how long treatment runs and how many trays are needed. We can only give an accurate figure after examining your teeth and bite.

Your written estimate should set out what is covered, including review visits, refinement trays, replacement trays and retainers. If you hold private extras cover, ask your fund how it treats the item numbers listed, as orthodontic benefits, limits and waiting periods differ between policies.

Payment options at our clinic include Zip Money, SuperCare and Humm. Eligibility criteria, fees and conditions apply.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far is the clinic from Willoughby?

Our clinic at 88 Christie Street, St Leonards, is usually around a 10-minute drive from central Willoughby, depending on traffic. By train, Artarmon Station is one stop away.

Am I too old for clear aligners?

Age alone is rarely the deciding factor. Healthy gums and bone matter more, and our dentist checks these at your assessment.

Can my teenager play sport while having aligner treatment?

Yes. Aligners should come out for contact sport and be replaced by a fitted mouthguard, then go back in after the game.

Do fillings or gum problems need treating first?

Usually, yes. Active decay and gum disease are generally treated before aligners are fitted, so the trays sit over a healthy mouth.

Will aligners change how I speak?

Some people notice a slight lisp for the first few days with a new set. This commonly settles as the tongue adjusts.

How often will I come in for reviews?

ClearCorrect reviews are commonly every six to eight weeks. Invisalign review timing depends on your individual plan.

Is a particular result guaranteed?

No. Treatment works towards an agreed improvement, but every mouth responds differently, and specific results cannot be guaranteed.

All dental procedures carry potential benefits and risks. Results, costs and treatment times vary between patients. Consider seeking a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner before proceeding.
