Clear Aligners Artarmon

Crooked, crowded or gappy teeth are a common reason Artarmon patients start looking into orthodontic options, and a fair number end up asking whether they need to travel into the CBD for it. St Leonards Green Dental is one train stop south of Artarmon Station, inside the Medical Centre at Tower 2, 88 Christie Street, and has been providing clear aligners near Artarmon for teens and adults since 2008.

We use Invisalign and ClearCorrect for treatments. Both systems move teeth using a planned series of custom, removable trays rather than fixed brackets and wires. Which one suits a given case depends on the assessment, not on brand preference, so Artarmon patients get the same individual planning whether they end up on Invisalign or ClearCorrect.

How Clear Aligner Treatment Works

Rather than one appliance worn continuously, aligner treatment uses a sequence of trays, each shaped slightly differently to guide teeth towards a planned position one small step at a time.

Treatment starts with a consultation covering the teeth, gums, jaw, bite and any earlier orthodontic history. Impressions, photographs or digital scans are taken to build a model of the mouth, which our dentist uses to map the intended tooth movements and estimate how many trays the case will need.

Once a plan is signed off, the trays are made and the patient works through them on a set schedule, with review visits along the way to check that movement is tracking as expected. How long this takes depends on case complexity, how much movement is required, and how consistently the patient actually wears the trays.

Invisalign And ClearCorrect: What's The Difference

Both are clear, removable tray systems, but they differ in materials, digital planning software and treatment protocol, which is why suitability is assessed case by case rather than assumed.

Invisalign tends to suit mild to moderate crowding, gaps, teeth that have drifted after earlier orthodontics, and certain bite issues. ClearCorrect uses translucent trays that must be worn for at least 22 hours a day and generally changed every two weeks, with review appointments roughly every six to eight weeks.

Neither is invisible in the strict sense. Small tooth-coloured attachments are sometimes needed to help particular movements, and how noticeable these are depends on where they sit and the treatment plan. The two systems are also not interchangeable, so a tray from one brand should never be swapped in for the other without our dentist’s input.

What Clear Aligners Can And Cannot Fix

Aligners help in a defined range of cases, and our dentist checks the bite and jaw relationship before recommending either system. Cases that may suit clear aligners include:

  • Mild or moderate crowding
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Mildly rotated teeth
  • Teeth that have shifted after earlier braces
  • Certain overbites, open bites or deep bites
  • Adults and responsible teens wanting a discreet option

ClearCorrect can suit teens who do not need significant movement and can stick to the wear schedule, though younger children or those with developing teeth are usually managed differently. Where the required movement goes beyond general dentistry, referral to an orthodontist may be the more appropriate path, and we can advise on that at the assessment.

Aligners Versus Fixed Braces

Both can move teeth, but the practical difference is that trays come out and braces do not. Being able to remove them for meals, brushing and flossing can make oral hygiene easier during treatment, which matters over a course that often runs a year or more.

The trade-off is that aligners only work if they are actually worn as prescribed. Forgetting to reinsert them or skipping ahead in the sequence slows progress in a way that fixed braces, which stay on regardless, do not allow. Fixed braces can also offer more control for genuinely complex movement, so the right choice comes down to clinical suitability rather than which looks better.

Wearing, Cleaning And Reviewing Your Trays

Trays come out for meals and anything other than water, and teeth should be brushed before they go back in, since trapped food and plaque under an aligner raises the risk of decay or gum irritation.

Cleaning follows whatever our dentist recommends, hot water is avoided because it can warp the plastic, and trays are stored in their case whenever they are not in the mouth.

A lost, cracked or ill-fitting tray should be reported straight away rather than skipped past, and old trays are worth keeping in case a temporary step back is needed. ClearCorrect patients are typically seen every six to eight weeks, while Invisalign review timing follows the individual plan.

Clear Aligner Cost And Payment Options

Cost depends on case complexity, treatment length, the system used and the number of trays required, so a figure cannot be confirmed until the teeth and bite have been assessed. A proper quote should state whether refinements, replacement trays, reviews and retainers are included or billed separately.

St Leonards Green Dental accepts Zip Money, SuperCare and Humm, subject to approval and applicable fees. ClearCorrect can work out more affordable in some cases, but cost is only one part of the decision alongside suitability and the movement actually required.

Why Artarmon Patients Choose Us For Aligner Treatment

Artarmon has its own general dentists along Hampden Road, and some list orthodontics among a broad range of services. What tends to bring patients one stop down the line is a practice where aligner planning is led by a principal with postgraduate training rather than treated as an add-on service.

Dr Nazila Nosratieh, principal dentist since 2019, holds a Doctor of Dental Surgery and a PhD in Oral Biology, and our practice has treated three generations of Lower North Shore patients since 2008.

Because we run both Invisalign and ClearCorrect from the same clinic, the choice between them is driven by the assessment rather than by which system a practice happens to stock. Complex cases that sit outside general dentistry can still be referred to an appropriate orthodontist without the patient starting the process over somewhere else.

Getting To St Leonards From Artarmon

For a treatment that involves regular short review visits over many months, how easy the trip is matters more than it does for a one-off appointment. St Leonards Green Dental sits one station south of Artarmon on the North Shore line, generally a two to three minute ride, and Saturday appointments can be arranged for patients who would rather not take time off work or school for every review.

Teens attending Artarmon Public School or one of the local high schools can get to a review appointment after school without needing a parent to drive across suburbs, and professionals working near the Gore Hill Freeway corridor can fit a visit in around a commute that already passes close to Christie Street. Street parking is available near our entrance for anyone driving over instead.

Proudly Serving Artarmon And The Lower North Shore

Artarmon is a mixed suburb split by the North Shore rail line, with established homes to the east, apartment living to the west, and a retail strip on Hampden Road that anchors day to day errands around the station.

That mix means our Artarmon patients range from teens starting treatment during high school through to adults fitting Invisalign around a full time job, which is part of why we run two aligner systems rather than one.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it worth the trip from Artarmon when there are dentists closer to home offering orthodontics?

Some patients prefer to stay local, but a number of Artarmon residents travel one station for aligner planning led by our dentist with postgraduate training in oral biology, and for the choice between two aligner systems rather than one. The short trip is often outweighed by that planning.

My teenager attends school in Artarmon. Can they get to review appointments without me driving them each time?

Many of our aligner patients are teens, and a short train trip or a Saturday slot can make it easier to fit reviews around school hours without a parent needing to take time off work.

I work near the Gore Hill Freeway in Artarmon. Can Invisalign fit around a full-time job?

Invisalign is popular with working adults for exactly this reason, since trays are removable and review visits are generally brief. Our dentist will set expectations for review frequency at the assessment.

How do I know whether Invisalign or ClearCorrect is right for my case?

The decision comes down to your bite, the movement required and your lifestyle rather than brand preference. Our dentist assesses both options at your consultation and recommends the one that fits your case.

Will I need a retainer afterwards, and does that mean another trip from Artarmon?

Yes, retainers are generally needed to hold the result once active treatment ends, and follow-up visits are usually far less frequent than during active aligner treatment.

Can clear aligners guarantee a particular result?

No. Treatment aims for the planned improvement, but outcomes vary between patients and cannot be guaranteed.

All dental procedures carry potential benefits and risks. Results, costs and treatment times vary between patients. Consider seeking a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner before proceeding.
