Clear Aligners Cammeray

A crooked lower front tooth, a gap that has slowly widened or teeth that have drifted since school braces can bother people for years before they do anything about it. For many Cammeray residents, the hesitation is about having metal brackets on show at work, at the school gate or across the table at dinner. In suitable cases, clear aligners can straighten teeth using a sequence of removable, transparent trays.

St Leonards Green Dental offers Invisalign and ClearCorrect to Cammeray patients from our clinic on Christie Street, St Leonards, roughly a 10-minute drive from the Miller Street shops. Before recommending anything, our dentist checks your teeth, gums and bite so we can give you a straight answer on whether aligners suit you.

What Happens At Your First Aligner Appointment

Your first visit is about gathering information, not committing to treatment. Our dentist asks what bothers you about your teeth, reviews any earlier orthodontic work and examines your gums, existing fillings and the way your top and bottom teeth meet.

We then take records of your mouth. Depending on the case, these may include photographs, impressions or digital scans and X-rays where clinically needed. These records are used to plan each tooth movement and estimate how many trays may be required.

Once the plan is prepared, we go through it with you, including what the treatment aims to change, what it will not change, roughly how long it may take and the expected cost. You can take time to think it over before going ahead.

Choosing Between Invisalign And ClearCorrect

Our clinic provides two aligner brands. Both move teeth with clear, removable trays, but each uses its own tray material, planning software and wear protocol.

Invisalign is commonly considered for mild to moderate crowding, spacing, teeth that have moved since earlier braces and selected bite issues. Whether it is right for you is confirmed at your assessment.

With ClearCorrect, our clinic asks patients to keep their trays in for a minimum of 22 hours each day and generally to change to a new set every two weeks. Check-ups during treatment are typically six to eight weeks apart.

ClearCorrect may cost less in some cases, but the system we recommend is chosen for clinical reasons first. Aligners are sometimes called invisible braces, although they are better described as hard to notice rather than invisible. Whichever brand you use, wear only the trays prescribed and supervised by your own treating dentist.

Attachments, Tooth Polishing And Refinement Trays

Some parts of aligner treatment surprise patients, so we explain them before you start.

Attachments are small bumps of tooth-coloured filling material bonded to selected teeth. They give the trays something to push against, which can help with rotations and other harder movements. They are removed and the teeth polished at the end of treatment. How noticeable they are depends on which teeth need them.

In some crowded cases, a very small amount of enamel may be smoothed from between certain teeth to create space. This is often called interproximal reduction. Our dentist will tell you if your plan includes it, where and why.

Teeth do not always follow the plan exactly. Near the end of the first series, our dentist may recommend a further set of refinement trays to fine-tune positions. Ask how refinements are handled and charged when you receive your estimate.

Is Your Case Suited To Aligners?

Aligners are effective for many alignment problems, but some movements are better handled another way. Our dentist considers your jaw relationship, bite and the distance each tooth would need to travel.

Cases where aligners may be considered include:

  • Mild or moderate crowding of the front teeth
  • Spaces between teeth
  • Teeth that are slightly twisted
  • Drifting after braces worn earlier in life
  • Selected overbites, deep bites and open bites
  • Adults and committed teenagers wanting a less visible option

For teenagers, ClearCorrect may be an option when the adult teeth have come through, only modest movement is needed, and the student can follow the wear routine. Younger children with developing teeth often need a different approach.

Significant jaw discrepancies or complex movements are often better treated with fixed braces or by a specialist orthodontist. Braces work around the clock without relying on the patient, and they can offer more control for difficult movements. If referral makes more sense, we will say so.

Fitting Aligners Around Work, Travel And Eating Out

Many Cammeray residents spend their working week in North Sydney or the CBD, and aligners can fit around that routine with a little planning.

Trays come out whenever you eat and whenever you drink anything other than plain water. A coffee on Miller Street, lunch in the office or dinner out along Military Road all mean taking them out, then brushing or rinsing before putting them back. Long gaps between meals and frequent snacking can eat into your daily wear time, so it helps to keep meals to set times.

Carry your case, a travel toothbrush and a small tube of toothpaste in your bag. A tray wrapped in a napkin is easily thrown away by mistake, and pets are known to chew aligners left within reach at home.

If you travel for work or holidays, ask us before you go. Depending on your plan, we may suggest packing your next set and keeping your most recent trays in case one is lost or damaged while you are away.

Clean the trays the way we show you, and keep them away from hot water, which can warp the plastic. A new set can feel tight for a day or two, and some people notice a slight change in speech at first. Both usually settle quickly, but let us know if pain persists or a tray stops sitting properly.

Keeping Teeth Straight After Treatment

Teeth can shift once active treatment ends, whether they were moved with braces, Invisalign or ClearCorrect. Wearing a retainer as directed is how the new positions are held.

Our dentist will explain the retainer that suits you and how often to wear it. Skipping retainer wear is one of the most common reasons teeth start to creep back.

Routine check-ups and cleans continue to matter after treatment, giving us a chance to check your gums, look for decay and monitor the stability of your teeth.

Clear aligners may improve tooth alignment and how your smile looks, but a specific cosmetic or functional result cannot be guaranteed. Results depend on suitability, planning, how your teeth respond and how consistently the trays are worn.

What Clear Aligners Cost

Fees vary with the complexity of your case, the aligner brand, the length of treatment and the number of trays involved. An accurate figure is only possible once our dentist has examined your teeth and bite.

Your estimate should spell out what is included, such as review visits, refinement trays, replacements for lost trays and retainers. If you have private health extras, check with your fund about the item numbers on your estimate, as orthodontic cover, annual limits and waiting periods vary.

Our clinic accepts Zip Money, SuperCare and Humm. Eligibility requirements, fees and conditions apply.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to get to the clinic from Cammeray?

Most Cammeray patients can drive to 88 Christie Street, St Leonards, in about 10 minutes via Falcon Street and the Pacific Highway, depending on traffic.

What are the small bumps on some aligner patients' teeth?

These are attachments, small tooth-coloured shapes bonded to selected teeth to help the trays grip. They are removed when treatment ends.

Will my teeth need to be filed to make space?

Sometimes. A small amount of enamel may be smoothed between certain teeth in crowded cases. Our dentist will tell you beforehand if your plan includes this.

Can I travel during aligner treatment?

Usually, yes. Talk to us before you leave so we can advise which trays to pack and what to do if one is lost.

What if my aligner no longer fits snugly?

Contact our clinic rather than moving on to the next set. Our dentist may ask you to return to a previous tray for a short time.

How long will treatment take?

It depends on how much movement is needed, the complexity of your case and how consistently you wear the trays. We will give you an estimate after your assessment.

Can clear aligners guarantee a particular smile?

No. Treatment works towards a planned improvement, but individual results vary and cannot be guaranteed.

All dental procedures carry potential benefits and risks. Results, costs and treatment times vary between patients. Consider seeking a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner before proceeding.
