Clear Aligners Lane Cove

dr-nazila-in-treatment

Many Lane Cove adults put off straightening their teeth because they don’t want brackets on show at work, in photos or around the village. Teenagers often feel the same way. For suitable patients, clear aligners move teeth gradually with removable plastic trays that are far less noticeable than fixed braces.

St Leonards Green Dental provides Invisalign and ClearCorrect for patients from Lane Cove, a short trip from our practice on Christie Street, St Leonards. We assess your teeth and bite first, then explain whether aligners are appropriate and which system may suit your case.

Why Distance Matters During Aligner Treatment

Aligner treatment is not a single appointment. After your records are taken and your first trays are fitted, you will usually return for short progress checks across many months. A practice that is easy to reach makes it simpler to keep those visits on schedule.

Our clinic is on Level 1 of Tower 2 at 88 Christie Street, opposite the hospital. Lane Cove is about three kilometres away, and the drive usually takes around 10 minutes, depending on traffic along Longueville Road and the Pacific Highway.

Busways services also connect Lane Cove with St Leonards Station, including route 265 via Greenwich. Timetables change, so check the Transport for NSW Trip Planner before you travel. Many Lane Cove residents already pass through St Leonards on their way to the city or North Sydney, so a review can often be booked before or after work. Saturday appointments may also be arranged.

Your First Visit And Treatment Plan

Your first appointment is an assessment, not a commitment. Our dentist looks at the position of your teeth, the health of your gums, how your upper and lower jaws meet and any orthodontic treatment you have had before.

Photographs, impressions or digital records may be taken. These help us build a model of your mouth, map each stage of tooth movement and estimate how many sets of trays you may need.

We then talk you through the plan, including what aligners can and cannot achieve for you. If fixed braces or specialist orthodontic care would suit your case better, we will say so and discuss a referral.

It helps to bring:

  • Details of any braces or retainers you have worn previously
  • A list of current medications and health conditions
  • Your private health fund card, if you have one
  • Questions about how trays would fit around your work, school or social routine

Choosing Between Invisalign And ClearCorrect

We offer two aligner systems. Both use clear, removable trays worn in sequence, but each brand has its own materials, planning software and treatment protocol.

Invisalign may be an option where there is mild to moderate crowding, spacing, teeth that have drifted after earlier orthodontics and some bite problems. Whether it suits you is confirmed at your assessment.

With ClearCorrect, we generally ask patients to wear their trays for at least 22 hours a day and to change to a new set about every two weeks. Reviews are commonly booked every six to eight weeks.

ClearCorrect may cost less in some cases, but price should be weighed against clinical suitability. Aligner brands are not interchangeable, and patients should wear only the system prescribed and monitored by their own dental practitioner.

Aligners are often called invisible braces, but “discreet” is more accurate. Small tooth-coloured attachments are sometimes bonded to teeth to help with particular movements, and how noticeable they are depends on where they sit.

Concerns Aligners May Help With

Aligners help in many cases, though not all. Before recommending them, our dentist considers your bite, your jaw relationship and how much movement is involved.

Common reasons Lane Cove patients ask about aligners include:

  • Crowded front teeth that are harder to keep clean
  • Spaces or gaps between teeth
  • Teeth that are slightly turned
  • Teeth that have moved since braces as a teenager
  • Some overbites, deep bites or open bites
  • Wanting discreet treatment during work, study or school

ClearCorrect may suit teenagers who need limited movement and can follow the wear routine reliably. Children whose adult teeth are still coming through may need a different approach.

Significant crowding, jaw discrepancies or complex bites may be better managed with fixed braces or by a specialist orthodontist. We will advise if a referral makes sense.

Aligners Or Fixed Braces?

Both options can move teeth. The main practical difference is that aligner trays come out, while braces stay fixed until active treatment is finished.

Taking trays out for meals means fewer food restrictions, and brushing and flossing are not obstructed by wires and brackets. For people who speak in meetings or appear in photos often, the low profile can also be appealing.

The trade-off is responsibility. Trays only work while they are in your mouth, so leaving them out for long stretches can slow or stall progress. Fixed braces work around the clock and may give more control over complex movement. We recommend an option based on what your teeth need, not on appearance alone.

Everyday Life With Aligners

Take your trays out to eat and to drink anything other than plain water. Brush before putting them back in, because food and plaque trapped under the plastic can raise the risk of decay and gum problems.

Clean your trays as instructed and keep them away from hot water, which can warp them. Store them in their case whenever they are out. Trays wrapped in a napkin during lunch in Lane Cove are easily thrown away, so the case is worth carrying.

If a tray cracks, goes missing or stops fitting properly, call us before moving on to the next set. Keep your previous trays, as you may be asked to go back to one for a short time.

A new set can feel tight for a day or two, and your speech may sound slightly different at first. These effects commonly settle, but let us know if discomfort continues.

After Treatment: Retainers And Ongoing Care

Teeth naturally tend to move after any orthodontic treatment, whether it involved braces, Invisalign or ClearCorrect. A retainer helps hold them in their new positions. We will advise which type suits you and how often to wear it, and skipping retainer wear can let teeth drift back.

Keep up your routine examinations and cleans as well. These visits let us monitor your gums, check for decay and keep an eye on how stable your result is.

Well-planned aligner treatment can improve how teeth line up and how you feel about your smile, yet a specific cosmetic or functional outcome is never assured. Results depend on suitability, planning, how your teeth respond and how consistently the trays are worn.

Costs, Health Funds And Payment Plans

Fees depend on case complexity, the system used, treatment length and the number of trays. We can only give a firm estimate after assessing your teeth and bite.

Ask for a written quote that shows what is included, such as review appointments, refinement trays, replacements and retainers.

Some private health extras policies include orthodontic benefits, often with waiting periods and annual or lifetime limits. Check your cover with your fund using the item numbers on your quote.

We accept Zip Money, SuperCare and Humm. Approval criteria, fees and conditions apply.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far is the practice from Lane Cove?

The practice is about three kilometres from Lane Cove, usually a 10-minute drive depending on traffic. Buses also link Lane Cove with St Leonards Station.

How often will I need to visit during treatment?

ClearCorrect reviews are commonly every six to eight weeks. How often Invisalign patients visit depends on the individual plan.

Can I order aligners online instead of seeing a dentist?

Australian dental and orthodontic bodies have raised concerns about aligner treatment without a full in-person assessment. We examine your teeth, gums and bite before prescribing aligners and monitor progress throughout.

My teeth moved after braces as a teenager. Can aligners help?

Aligners are often used for mild to moderate relapse. We will assess what has changed and whether they are suitable.

Should I see a dentist or a specialist orthodontist?

General dentists can provide aligners for suitable cases. Complex tooth or jaw movement may need a specialist orthodontist, and we will advise if referral is appropriate.

Is a specific result guaranteed?

No. We plan treatment towards an agreed improvement, but every patient responds differently and results cannot be guaranteed.

All dental procedures carry potential benefits and risks. Results, costs and treatment times vary between patients. Consider seeking a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner before proceeding.
